Avoid Indexing Legal Pages on Your Hobby Website

Updated

If you are like me, you might have some fun side projects that you publish on the internet. You might include legal pages or contact pages that contain email addresses or phone numbers. Well there is a small problem with that: GOOGLE INDEXATION!

The internet never forgets anything. Which is why you will get spammy calls after some time as people crawl google to get phone numbers and email addresses from indexed pages.

There is one way to avoid your page getting indexed (or at least the legal pages).

You can create a robots txt that tells search engine crawlers to ignore certain pages and not index them.

One example might look like this were you would disallow 4 legal pages and allow all others:

0User-agent: *
1Disallow: /imprint
2Disallow: /data-privacy
3Disallow: /contact
4Disallow: /terms
5
6User-agent: *
7Allow: /

Or you can just disallow all:

0User-agent: *
1Disallow: /
